What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy has its roots in psychoanalysis. It is healing through conversation. This conversation is conducted by a qualified specialist, takes place within a set framework and aims at improving mental and emotional state of a patient by becoming aware of the unconscious. It consists in creating a relationship between a therapist and a patient in order to be able to work through difficult areas of a patient and requires active participation of both sides.
Patient’s work with therapist begins with building a relationship. At the beginning, a contract is established, i.e. an agreement between a patient and a therapist regarding formal conditions (place, time, frequency of meetings) and the difficulties that may arise during therapy.
In the course of therapeutic sessions, thanks to the conditions that provide a sense of security and confidentiality, a patient can work through difficult mental areas of his life. Although the symptoms of patients may be similar, the causes are individual, therefore psychotherapy in the psychodynamic approach is a treatment that takes into account the individuality of each person and their problems.
